What would cause pain when inhaling on my lower right back?

Posted on August 2009 in lower right pain

Three days ago I started having sharp pain in my lower right back when inhaling. The rest of my lower back hurts as well, but does not have the sharp pains when inhaling. A friend suggested I might have pulled a muscle. I am wondering why this would cause pain when breathing, and what I can do to relieve the pain.

OMG! I am in the bed right now in pain right now looking for advice on my pain also! I hurt my back riding my bike too long. It didn’t hurt the same day. I woke up the next morning and could barely get out of bed. The pain is on my right side, in the middle and when I am sitting up breathing, it hurts my chest. My research says that muscles on that side of the body is connected to muscles in the front of your body which can interupt your breathing. So I am taking it easy and resting, using icyhot and advil for the pain. It will take a few days to wear off. There is not much you can do. Good luck!

Gout is an inflammatory joint disease and a form of arthritis, not some mysterious illness of the rich and powerful.

Gout, which occurs in about five percent of people with arthritis, results from the buildup of uric acid in the blood. Uric acid is the result of the breakdown of waste substances, called purines, in the body. Usually it is dissolved in the blood, processed by the kidneys, and passed out of the body in the urine. But in some people there is an excess amount of uric acid, too much for the kidneys to eliminate quickly. When there is too much uric acid in the blood, it crystallizes and collects in the joint spaces, causing gout. Occasionally, these deposits become so large that they push against the skin in lumpy patches, called tophi, that can actually be seen.

A gout attack usually lasts five to ten days, and the most common area under siege is the big toe. In fact, 75 percent of people with gout will be affected in the big toe at some time. Gout in the big toe can become so painful that even a bedsheet draped over it will cause intolerable pain. Besides the big toe, gout may also develop in the ankles, heels, knees, wrists, fingers, and elbows.

If you’re already predisposed to gout, you can trigger an episode by

Drinking too much alcohol

Overeating, especially purine foods

Having surgery

Experiencing a sudden severe illness or trauma

Going on a crash diet

Injuring a joint

Having chemotherapy

Being under stress. The link isn’t the stress itself, but the comfort eating or drinking that may accompany it.

If you have gout, professional medical treatment is required. There are several prescription medications that are very effective at eliminating excess uric acid. Untreated, gout may progress to serious joint damage and disability. Also, excess uric acid can cause kidney stones.

Sharp stabbing pain in lower back, on the right side just below last rib?

Posted on July 2009 in lower right pain

I will be just doing average daily activities and all of the sudden I will get this horrid stabbing pain in my mid/lower back just under my last rib on the right side. When I’m expericing this episode of pain, I find that the pain becomes worse when exhaling. Any idea as to what this could be?

Thank you, all!

It may be just a bruise or as the other guy said an appendicitus. You should go to a doctor and have it checked out. I almost had to get one down cause of the pain but im alright now.
Heres some info on appendicitus:
Appendicitis (or epityphlitis) is a condition characterized by inflammation of the appendix. All cases require removal of the inflamed appendix, either by laparotomy or laparoscopy. Untreated, mortality is high, mainly because of peritonitis and shock. Reginald Fitz first described acute appendicitis in 1886, and it has been recognized as one of the most common causes of severe acute abdominal pain worldwide.

women please lower abdominal pain on the right side near ovaries?

Posted on July 2009 in lower right pain

I am currently experiencing sharp pain in my lower right side and i feel as though my period or something is coming down when i go to the bathroom there is nothing. Last lime i felt something moist and i checked it was a cloudy discharge there is no smell, irritation or anything just the pain and this cloudy discharge. could someone please help me.

It really sounds like you’re ovulating to me. I get that about 1 to 2 weeks before I am about the start my period. Some months it’s on my right side, some months it’s on my left side - it has to do with which tube is releasing an egg.

I just started having this feeling when I was ovulating about a year ago, so if you’ve never had ovulating symptoms before, it doesn’t mean that it’s something to worry about.

Good luck and reeeeelax! :)

What would be the cause of lower right abdominal pain?

Posted on July 2009 in lower right pain

I’ve been having pain in my lower right pelvic area. I already been to the OB and there is nothing wrong with my ovaries. What else could be the cause of my pain? It never goes away. Its a constant sharp pain that last all the time…and hurts worse when I run.

In females -
1 Appendicitis
2 An ectopic Pregnancy
3 Pelvic Inflammatory Disease as a Result of an STD
4 Something known as a persistent corpus luteum (it’s a fluke of your menstrual cycle)
5 Ovarian cyst

I’d find a different doctor and fast!

Occasional pain on lower right side of back and right rib cage?

Posted on July 2009 in lower right pain

I’ve been hyperventilating quite abit lately (seems the more I think about breathing the more I hyperventilate) and a couple of times where I’ve tried to take deep breaths I have felt this shooting stabbing pain on the lower right side of my back and under my rib cage. It doesn’t happen all the time but the two times that it has happened it has worried me & for the last week or so the area has been quite sore. Help! Any ideas what this can be?

I agree, see a doctor, but also maybe see a massage therapist. Your seratus anterior helps with inhalation along with some other muscles between your ribs in your rib cage. the stabbing pain could be one of your intercostal muscles getting pinched. the tightening of the muscles could be getting tense from stress or allergens in the air, or a combination of both.

if you don’t want to pay $30-60 to go see a massage therapist, try raking your fingers along the contours of your rib cage.

I have lower right abdoment pain, what is it?

Posted on July 2009 in lower right pain

I have had a pain on my right side for the last couple of days. It is almost by my leg. I don’t think it is my appendix because it is much lower. The pain comes and goes, and almost feels like a numbing or pinching. I have also been bloated, and am not sure if this could be causing the pain.

If you push on it and it feels better or there’s a bump and it seems to go in, it could be a hernia. Check with your doctor.

I have recently been experiencing lower right abdominal pains and also a sharp pain in my anal area why?

Posted on July 2009 in lower right pain

I recently had a miscarriage in December and my periods have been regular up until March-April. Now they have been spotty, some light and heavy, at different times throughout the month. For about the last two weeks I have been getting really bad lower right abdominal pains and pain in my anal area feeling like I have to poop, but I don’t. I have never had this before could anyone help me?

the pain may or may not be related to your miscarriage - the first thing that strikes me when you say pain in the lower right abdomen is an infection of your appendix… better than asking around here would be to see your doctor before the infection/pain spreads and requires some medical procedure. don’t let people give you random diagnoses
